TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – “Kids with Cents” is a class all about money that is allowing local children to facing poverty to reach for the sky. Toledo non-profit, Neighborhood Properties Inc., was putting on the class for children living in their supportive housing.
“If they came from poverty and this is all they know let’s just teach them something different and maybe they’ll go in a different direction,” said manager Shalonda Powell.
Also, the teachers of the class may be who you would expect. They are children as well.
“When you have another person as your peer, that’s your age, that’s like trying to teach you something, show you something, make it more exciting, they can relate to them also on their level as well,” said Powell. “It’s a smaller group so they can get that one on one attention that they need.”
