Campbell Supervisors discuss county’s future waste strategy [Video]

The Region 2000 landfill is set to reach its capacity in six years, prompting the Campbell County Board of Supervisors to talk about the future of waste management.

Region 2000 includes Appomattox, Campbell and Nelson counties, and the City of Lynchburg.

County Administrator Frank Rogers said in the late summer of 2022, the county engaged Gershman, Brickner & Bratton (GBB), a solid waste management consulting firm, to begin an analysis of the county’s trash tonnage and an assessment of the existing system, to see if it can put together potential options moving forward.

Eugenia Manwelyan, GBB senior project manager, said the county has about six years of capacity remaining at the Region 2000 landfill on Livestock Road.

The landfill is in Campbell County but is owned and operated by Region 2000 services and authority.
