UNLV: Demands by QB Matthew Slukas agent could be NCAA pay-for-play violation [Video]

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – After the starting quarterback announced his decision to leave on social media, UNLV is now accusing the player’s representatives of violating NCAA rules.

On Tuesday night, Matthew Sluka announced his intentions to leave the program after he alleged that “representations” made by the team would not be upheld.

FOX5′s Paloma Villicana spoke with Sluka’s agent, who said that the starter was verbally promised $100,000 from an assistant coach to transfer. However, reports of Sluka only receiving a $3,000 relocation stipend were also confirmed by his NIL representation.

UNLV Athletics issued the following statement:

Football player Matthew Sluka’s representative made financial demands upon the University and its NIL collective in order to continue playing. UNLV Athletics interpreted these demands as a violation of the NCAA pay-for-play rules, as well as Nevada state law. UNLV does not engage in such activity, nor does it respond to implied threats.
