National and local leaders, including teachers, gathered to discuss efforts being made to support students with dyslexia in their schools.U.S. Senator Katie Britt was joined by U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, and Dr. Laura Cassidy, a Dyslexia Resource Center board member, for a roundtable discussion at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.According to a news release, teachers from all parts of Alabama also joined in to speak about their experiences in UA’s Certified Academic Language Therapist program (CALT).UA’s CALT is a professional development program that offers certification for teachers specializing in assisting students with dyslexia.“This program not only helps students but helps other teachers understand the tools and innovation that are out there and the science that supports it, so that they can take what they’ve learned back to their communities and change the trajectory of children’s lives,” said Sen.
