Turn 12-year resolution into 12-week goals [Video]

Instead of one big year-long resolution to save money in 2025, try manageable 12-week goals.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s a common mantra for money motivation: if you want to be rich, start acting poor. In other words, if you want to make money, save money.

Statista research showed ‘saving money’ is Americans’ top New Year’s resolution for 2025. Financial literacy author Ja’Net Adams, who formed her program Debt Sucks University after clearing her own $50,000 in debt, suggests dividing a lofty goal into achievable intervals.

She explained, “Every year, New Year resolutions are created. Some are achieved, and some are not. One of the reasons that some resolutions are not achieved may be because of the time frame that we set them in, which is usually year long.”

Adams outlined three key steps to adjust the time frame and, in turn, increase accountability and achievability.
