TikTok users migrating to RedNote, but it may come with security risks [Video]

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The U.S. Supreme Court has unanimously upheld the federal law to ban the social media app TikTok on Sunday if it’s not sold to an American entity. The court says the risk to national security overcomes the concerns of the First Amendment that the app owners were arguing for.

Around 170 million people use TikTok in the U.S., including casually, for entertainment, or even business purposes.

TikTok’s owner ByteDance has said it won’t sell, and because of that, TikTok users are transitioning to another app called RedNote. RedNote is also a Chinese-owned social media app with 300 million monthly users. The app runs almost the same as TikTok.

A cybersecurity expert tells Action 2 News there are higher risks when you sign up for RedNote.
