South Dakota DOE gives educators hands-on learning experiences [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – South Dakota Roads Trips allow teachers across the state to experience the culture and rich history South Dakota has to offer.

When they head back to the classrooms this upcoming school year, they can give their students an enriching educational experience.

The state’s Department of Education got behind the wheel of South Dakota Road Trips last year when the Board of Education Standards passed new social studies standards.

“We knew that it was important to provide educational opportunities and professional development to all of the teachers across South Dakota,” said Shannon Malone, director for the Division of Learning and Instructing with the South Dakota Department of Education.

While these standards won’t be put into action until the fall of 2025, for educators like Rapid City 3rd grade teacher Katie Faini, the opportunity makes a huge difference within her classroom.
