Saturday Night Live‘s cold open tackled the Internet’s obsession with the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The episode kicked off with a parody of Crime Stories with Nancy Grace, with Sarah Sherman playing the host who is baffled by social media’s reaction to Luigi Mangione.
Mangione, 26, was arrested at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania on Monday. He is facing gun and weapons charges in Pennsylvania and fighting extradition to New York, where prosecutors have charged him with second-degree murder and other offenses in connection with Thompson’s killing.
Thompson was gunned down on the morning of December 4 as he walked alone to his company’s annual investor conference at a hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
“Of course, everyone online celebrated the hard work of law enforcement in apprehending this dangerous criminal,” Sherman’s Grace said during the sketch. “Just kidding! Y’all psychos made him a sex symbol.”
