Volunteers, organizations and local businesses plan to build and deliver 125 beds to children in Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties who don’t have a proper place to sleep during Bunks Across America on Saturday.
The Racine/Kenosha and the Walworth County chapters of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit dedicated to building beds for children in need, will host the Jockey-sponsored event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kenosha County Fairgrounds in Wilmot, 30820 111th St.
An estimated 2-3% of children in any given area are without beds. They often sleep on couches, in crowded beds with other family members, or even on the floor. Having a safe and comfortable bed of their own can be crucial for their physical and mental well-being and development, organizers said.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is committed to ensuring that “no kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”
