TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Better Business Bureau says it wants you to watch out for clickbait scams both in your personal life and at work.

Scammers try to lure you in with some exciting or shocking news so that you’ll click on a dangerous link. Sometimes, they’ll use eye-catching words or phrases like “shocking!” or “never seen before footage.”

Most commonly, you’ll see these scams in action on social media.

It can come in the form of a post, a comment, or even a direct message. The link may even look like it was sent by a friend or someone you follow, but it’s all a front.

Once that link is clicked, hackers can hijack your account or steal your personal information.
