CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Eastern Iowa’s junior varsity cross country runners got to run in their very own meet in Cedar Rapids.
The meet started all because of an Instagram page run by JV cross country runner Easton Mai. Mai is a senior at Prairie High School.
Mai had an idea to start ranking JV athletes on social media each week just like how the state ranks varsity runners.
“It kind of just took off from there and every week we did some rankings throughout a lot of classes in Iowa. We did some boys and we did some girls as well,” Mai said.
As the rankings gained traction, Mai had another idea to put on a JV state cross country meet for all the runners that didn’t qualify to compete at Iowa’s state varsity meet.
