School breaks ground on health clinic [Video]

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio. (WSAZ) – South Gallia Middle and High School and Holzer Health System celebrated the groundbreaking of their new comprehensive health center, funded through the Appalachian Community Grant Program.

Ohio’s Department of Development’s Director Lydia Mihalik said the center will provide primary and behavioral healthcare, as well as dental and vision care for students and staff.

She expressed excitement over the health care clinic and the convenience it would provide families.

“A lot of these students or community members have to travel more than half an hour away to be able to access care. Having it right here in the school system in a place they’re very familiar with is a great model to ensure the health of the community,” Mihalik said.

It was part of a $64 million investment that Gov. Mike DeWine announced in Ohio for school-based health clinics across 20 Appalachian counties, including Gallia County Local, Gallipolis City, and Wellston City Schools.
