Road closed in North Vancouver due to gas leak [Video]

A gas leak in North Vancouver Monday afternoon has closed a busy section of road during the rush-hour commute and left hundreds without service.

Mountain Highway was shut down between Bond and Crown streets, local RCMP wrote on social media around 4:15 p.m. The affected area is just west of Phibbs Exchange and Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.

Police said the closure is expected to last for several hours.

In an alert, FortisBC said it shut down part of its system to make repairs, cutting off gas for about 320 customers.

It cited “external party damage” as the cause of the leak, and said it anticipates repairs to be complete sometime Monday evening.

“Once repairs are complete and gas is safely restored in the line, our crews will visit each affected home or business to turn gas back on at the meter and relight all affected appliances,” the utility wrote. “If no …
