Belinda Steffan is a Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. Here, she discusses the Supporting Healthy Ageing at Work (SHAW) team’s research on labour force participation among adults in mid-to-later life which reveals the pivotal role of line managers in fostering positive workplace experiences.
The project’s success in training over 1,000 line managers has equipped them to handle sensitive discussions about health, age and gender at work, positively impacting employee well-being, engagement and retention.
