Red flags in social media ads during holiday season [Video]

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Social media can provide lots of great gift ideas this holiday season, but the Better Business Bureau warns to look, but don’t click.

Rhonda Mettler with the Southern Nevada BBB said the organization receives complaints from consumers about social media ad scams all the time.

Shoppers purchase an item but never get it, or they received a lackluster product that was not advertised.

Mettler said there are a number of red flags shoppers can look for so they don’t become another victim, including the product’s price. A lower price that normal could be a sign of a counterfeit product.

Con artists will often turn off the post’s comments to keep their previous victims from warning others. Mettler recommends a simple Google search before purchasing anything found on social media.
