Nonprofit opening Hunger Hub to help feed Charlotte-area residents [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Friday is a big day for a nonprofit that helps feed thousands of people everyday in the Charlotte area.

In 2021, nonprofits Loaves and Fishes, and Friendship Trays combined, becoming what is now known as Nourish Up.

On Friday, Nourish Up will officially open a new “Hunger Hub” in northwest Charlotte’s Thomasboro-Hoskins neighborhood. The brand-new 90,000-square-foot building has 10 times as much space for cold food storage, more room for volunteers, a teaching kitchen and an on-site food pantry.

In 2023, Nourish Up helped feed more than 137,000 people across Mecklenburg County, including families, veterans and seniors.

The latest project was made possible by a two-year campaign that raised $23 million, including a $3 million donation from Carolina Panthers owners David and Nicole Tepper.
