Montgomerys Cahawba House restaurant closing after 8 years [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A beloved restaurant in downtown Montgomery is closing its doors after 8 years due to financial hardships, according to a post on the business’s social media page.

The Cahawba House, located at 31 South Court Street, saw some of its plates of Southern comfort food featured in publications such as the New York Times and USA Today.

But the stove is being turned off. In a post made by Gary Essary, who is the father of the original owners, he details the story of the Cahawba House’s decline, explaining that legal fees played a big role in its demise. He says the issues began before the pandemic when the U.S. Department of Labor started investigating the business following claims against its owners.
