Mio Italiano has permanently closed its doors.
Operators Tony and Jamie Uphoff announced the move on social media Thursday to address rumors about the fate of the restaurant, which was opened in March 2023.
It replaced the popular Lo Sole Mio Italian eatery at 3001 S. 32nd Ave. Don and Marie Losole had owned and operated that restaurant for more than 30 years but wanted to retire after a six-decade career. They leased the space to the Uphoffs, who purchased some of the Lo Sole Mio equipment and offered some of its dishes on their new menu.
When Mio Italiano opened, Tony Uphoff told The World-Herald that the menu was one-third classic Italian, one-third dishes from the Losoles that he reimagined and one-third his own creations. He was the restaurant’s executive chef.
