COVINGTON, Ky. (WXIX) – Kentucky is joining more than a dozen states suing the social media company behind the TikTok app, claiming the app harms kids.
Attorney generals in 14 states are claiming TikTok targets kids and the app is addictive.
“TikTok is more than funny dance videos and looking at cute cats,” Kentucky AG Russ Coleman said. “It’s a specially designed tool crafted to suck in minors, leading to depression and anxiety.”
Crystal Leugers, of the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky Behavioral Health, said it’s difficult to detect if an app is harmful to kids, but it can exacerbate problems for kids with mental health issues.
“For youth that are vulnerable to mental health issues, it definitely exacerbates those issues because it creates a false sense of connection,” Leugers said.
