PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Reports of immigration sweeps in metro Phoenix have been spreading across social media. Advocates say the misinformation is causing panic among the undocumented community.
“We’ve seen a lot on social,” said Melina Arellano Flores, a youth organizer with Puente AZ. “Everyone’s very anxious. There’s a lot of panic going around and especially with these social media posts, it’s just increasing that.”
Recent posts pointed to raids near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road at an apartment complex to businesses near Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street.
“It’s a lot of trauma being ripped away from family being constantly watching your back, not knowing who’s behind you. If you get pulled over,” Flores said.
Puente AZ took to social media this week to warn of the dangers these types of posts cause to bring.
