How to apply for FEMA assistance in South Carolina after Helene [Video]

FEMA spokesperson Tiana Suber says there are three straightforward ways to apply for assistance.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Some social media platforms are swirling with rumors regarding Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance following Hurricane Helene. FEMA spokesperson Tiana Suber recently tackled the misinformation and explained three ways to apply for assistance.

“You can go on disaster assistance.gov, you can call the hotline at 1-800-621-3362, or you can go on the FEMA mobile app,” she said.

As FEMA officers come to the South Carolina Midlands for hurricane and disaster relief, they say residents applying for funding should know what to expect.

“If you do call us, we would like to have some documentation, including your identification, social security number, where you were living at the time of the disaster, whether you have insurance,” Suber said. “You know, things like that that we need to identify you, to give you a registration number, and to proceed with that application process.”
