JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The men and women building and repairing homes, roads, and bridges are at a higher risk of heart disease, according to the American Heart Association.
Construction workers endure conditions that prompt the organization to ask companies to help their employees live healthier.
“I was out every day, hot conditions in the summertime, brand new asphalt,” said Ryan Bell.
He is with Watkins Construction and Roofing and knows the hardships of construction workers.
The sales director’s company is taking part in the American Heart Association’s “Hard Hats with Hearts” campaign to reduce their risks for heart-related illnesses.
“One in 25 construction workers will suffer from some cardiovascular disease and just taking our guys for instance that would take out six of our guys,” said Bell.
That’s why the Heart Association is gathering construction companies to offer health, well-being, and prevention solutions specifically for construction workers.
