Georgia nonprofit highlights importance of helping on World Hunger Day [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – May 28 marks World Hunger Day.

Caring for Others is a nonprofit working across the state and abroad to give people meals, furniture, and clothing.

Caring for Others is one of more than 140 organizations that will share the $1.7 billion from The White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities grant.

Crystal Kahlil said it’s a tough choice for some of their clients deciding to pay for rent, food or medicine.

“Just coming here today, I passed so many homeless communities under the bridge, right? It is becoming more and more obvious that we’ve got to do something we’ve got to help each other,” Kahlil said

Nonprofit Feeding America estimates the average meal in Georgia is almost $4. Nearly 1.5 million Georgians can’t afford that. Two-thirds of them don’t qualify for federal assistance programs.
