One New Orleans businesswoman is beating the odds of financial literacy rates in the state.Data shows 57 percent of Americans are financially illiterate, with Louisiana ranking top of the list. “In Louisiana especially we have one of the lower average salaries. So, a lot of our people are living paycheck to paycheck, so financial management is not a priority for them because they are just in survival mode,” said Kamora Wilson, a budget coach.Wilson says a lack of financial knowledge can mean a person does not know how to properly budget, save and know how to live comfortably. She says oftentimes, financial illiteracy gets passed down through generations, which can result in credit and student loan debt, divorce and generational poverty.
