MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced funding for residents of Flint and Saginaw on Friday.

The funding was announced at Clark Commons Community Center in Flint.

Birch Park Apartments in Saginaw will receive more than $63,000, while the Flint Housing Commission will get $74,000.

The money will go towards supporting services like job training, financial literacy and health and wellness programs.

“What this money does is it gives people the tools to acquire the education and skills to reach their goals,” says the principal deputy assistant secretary, Richard Monocchio. “We know everybody needs a helping hand at some point, and it’s more than about housing.”

Communities across Michigan will receive $4.2 million in 2024 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
