After it was revealed that Rory McIlroy had recently played a round at the Old Course at St. Andrews ahead of the Olympics in France, some social media critics questioned if another links golf round was proper preparation for Le Golf National. McIlroy quieted those doubters with a three-under 68 on Thursday in Paris, placing him just two shots outside of the top three in the Men’s Golf Competition at the Olympics.
“I wasn’t expecting quite the crowd on the last few holes that we got but yeah, it was good,” McIlroy said. “That was the first game of golf I’ve had since Troon. I thought at least one game of golf before I got here was probably beneficial.”
