Edward Teach Brewery dismisses defamation case against local singer after viral post sparked legal battle [Video]

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A year-long legal battle between a Wilmington brewery and a local musician has finally concluded.

WECT confirmed Wednesday that Edward Teach Brewery owner Gary Sholar has dropped the defamation case against singer Madonna Nash.

It comes after Nash issued a lengthy apology on Facebook Tuesday, saying in part, “I apologize sincerely to Edward Teach Brewing, its owner Gary Sholar, and its employees for my actions. I take full responsibility for the mistakes I made, and I say it’s time to put this situation behind us.”

The controversy started a year ago when Nash accused Sholar on social media of getting violent during an incident at the brewery.

In a now-deleted social media post made in December 2023, Nash claimed Sholar inappropriately touched and aggressively confronted her daughter, musician Asia Daye Norris, while she was performing at the brewery in November.
