The Columbia School Board presented their transportation program evaluation at Monday night’s meeting.
The presentation looked into how CPS measure their performance with the transportation department. Tony Maltbia, the Director of Transportation, presented the percentages of buses arriving and departing on time, the efficiency of bus routes, accident rates and driver turnover rates.
The evaluation showed the current school bus driver turnover rate is in good. Currently, the national turnover rate for bus drivers is 25%. But in Columbia, the bus driver turnover rate is 11%.
The presentation also included how CPS will provide professional development to their bus drivers and gave a timeline of the integration of a new bus company. CPS will be working with their new transportation partner, DS Bus Lines Inc., starting August 2025. The district currently works with Student Transportation of America.
