City of Fargo repurposing 75-year-old landfill [Video]

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The City of Fargo is giving one of our landfills a much-needed makeover!

The Fargo landfill consists of two sites: the East and West sites. The East landfill is 75-years-old and hasn’t been active since 1980.

Waste Directors said Fargo needs more landfill space, so instead of building a brand-new site, they’re repurposing the old one. By reusing an already city-owned piece of land, Scott Olson, Solid Waste Director said it’s going to save residents a lot of money.

“We’re removing about 200,000 yards of material and about 500,000 yards of dirt in order to construct the new cells. So, each one I suspect going forward, depending on the size and the amount of material, it will probably be in the $6 to 7-million-dollar range.” He added, “We didn’t have to go and find a new site to develop and permit to landfill… everything …
