Prosecutors in the case of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Georgia, are pushing back against efforts to suppress crucial evidence. The suspect, 26-year-old Venezuelan migrant Jose Antonio Ibarra, was captured on video allegedly disposing of bloody clothes and gloves shortly after the murder. He pleaded not guilty to 10 charges related to Riley’s killing in May.
Ibarra recently requested a hearing to suppress key pieces of evidence, including cell phones, a cheek swab, and social media accounts. He claimed that police unlawfully obtained these items during an apartment search conducted without a warrant. The defense argued that these actions violated his rights.
