Catoosa kicks off school year, opens new elementary building | News [Video]

CATOOSA, Okla. — Monday morning, more than 600 elementary students moved into Catoosa’s brand new Cherokee Elementary School, eager to start the school year.

Catoosa Supt. Robert Schornick said the new building shows their district is growing.

“So many good things are going on. Enrollment is up and for us, that means ‘are we providing the necessary learning spaces and tools and resources for students to be successful?.’” said Schornick.

Schornick says the new elementary building has 38 classrooms and 14 more will be added for the next school year. He’s excited to have it open in time for the students.

“It’s a two-year project and it finally came to fruition. It’s something we’ve been anxiously awaiting and its here,” said Schornick.

Besides the new school, Schornick says the district added new staff and another school resource officer.
