NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A boat fire near the James River Bridge stopped traffic on the bridge in both directions Sunday morning.
Newport News Assistant Fire Chief Dave Lewis confirmed a working boat fire near the bridge around 10 a.m. and that traffic was being affected.
This comes after photos started circulating on social media around 9:40 a.m., showing dark black smoke billowing from a boat in the water near the JRB
In a social media post around 11:30 a.m., Suffolk Fire-Rescue said that a fire boat crew from their department had joined Newport News Fire and the U.S. Coast Guard in responding to the incident earlier that morning.
