Birmingham mayor speaks against soon-to-open lounge; community hopes others will give it a chance [Video]

A downtown Birmingham upscale lounge is the cause of concern. Residents and even the mayor are calling out PRVLGE, and it hasn’t officially opened yet.The lounge is on 1st Avenue North. It’s near multiple cocktail bars and restaurants. There were two lounges and clubs on the same street, but they’ve since closed. One because the city revoked its business license, while the other decided to relocate. This all comes after complaints from the people who live in the Central City neighborhood.Residents said they felt the businesses attracted people who brought unwanted activity to the area. There are several videos where people were seen twerking in the street, street racing and walking down the street carrying guns. Even though PRVLGE isn’t open yet, neighbors said they’re fearful of another late-night spot coming to their neighborhood.Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin expressed his reservations on social media, saying the upscale lounge should not open. …
