TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Better Business Bureau is asking parents to be careful about what they share about their students online.

Social media sees a flood of back-to-school photos every year. In many of these pictures, a child is holding a sign with information such as their name and grade.

If parents aren’t careful about what they put on those signs, sensitive information can get into the wrong hands.

Scammers can use it to steal the child’s identity, and dangerous people might try to gain their trust by knowing those details.

What to watch for

Sensitive information can look like the child’s height, age, full name, and where they go to school.
