ORONO – Hockey season is right around the corner in maine, and while the orange construction cones may not be cleared of the area this November, all of the renovations to Alfond Arena and the Shawn Walsh Center are on schedule.
The University of Maine is renovating the two buildings to bring upgrades across the board to the student athlete experience. Both the Shawn Walsh Center and the Alfond will be equipped with brand new lounges for the athletes, coaches offices, locker rooms, training facilities and more. Fan upgrades include a beer garden, new entrance and waiting area, lighting on the ice and a new concession stand. All of the upgrades are still expected to be finished by 2025- and it all times up pretty well with the newfound success of the hockey programs.
