Alaskans react to the potential banning of TikTok [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A majority of the U.S. Supreme Court appears likely to uphold the controversial TikTok ban after oral arguments were heard Friday.

The popular social media app is owned by a Chinese parent company. Lawmakers passed the law with bipartisan support along with the backing of the Biden Administration over national security concerns.

TikTok argues the ban would violate the First Amendment rights of its users.

Anchorage TikTok users expressed how this ban would affect local creators and businesses.

“If they do ban TikTok, I think, like they should move their their content to another like a social media platform,” Jubilee Toa said.

TikTok user Grace Aubrey said, “I have a lot of creators that I follow on there and it’s harder because not a lot of them are moving over to other platforms because people don’t usually use Facebook too much. So, that’s like the only other real alternative is the Facebook reels and YouTube …
