ALABASTER, Ala. (WBRC) – Drivers on Highway 119 in Alabaster can now see mounds of dirt and large construction equipment in front of the old Thompson Intermediate School building, the future site of a brand-new recreation center and library.
“What people are seeing right now is where we’re going to put all the underground utilities,” said Mayor Scott Brakefield. “What we’re having to do right now is sort of come through and blast and get everything prepared for it to be excavated out.”
These powerlines will soon be underground, making way for demolition in early 2025.
The mayor added this could begin as early as February, but this will not include a portion of the building temporarily housing the Alabaster City Schools Board of Education.
The previously remodeled football and baseball fields will soon be joined by a state-of-the-art recreation center, including three gymnasiums, an indoor track, work out facilities, locker rooms, …
