After unexpected cancelation, Palmers popular Friday Fling market returns [Video]

PALMER, Alaska (KTUU) – A popular downtown Palmer vendor market is set to return Friday after taking an unexpected two-week break to address traffic concerns.

The Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) cited safety concerns surrounding heavy traffic in a social media post on June 26.

According to the post, a staff member was “nearly hit” at the weekly Friday Fling market after a vehicle ran over traffic cones that were marking the road closure. The incident was reported to police, but further attempts by chamber staff to direct traffic led to an additional altercation that inevitably led to the chamber’s decision to pause the popular market until additional staff and volunteers could be put in place.

The cancelation left dozens of vendors and food trucks without a place to sell their goods and services. Still, small businesses across Palmer rallied together to develop an alternative to the downtown event.
