For the 2025 session, Republicans say they are focused on education and property taxes while Democrats are looking at topics like minimum wage and THC legalization.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Just a day after the 2025 legislative session started, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is set to give her her Condition of the State.

State lawmakers have discussed plans to tackle inflation and education as top priorities.

This year, Republicans are focused on improving education reforming state property taxes.

Social media and cellphone use were also touched on in a Monday speech by Speaker of the House Pat Grassley, R-New Hartford.

“We know the dangers of smartphones and social media. It’s time for us to take a look and take action. This can include limiting cellphone use during instructional time and putting parents back in the driver seat of their children’s social media accounts,” Grassley said.
