Rob Coleman narrowly defeats challengers in the Central District, while Tina Vick wins with two-thirds of the vote in the South District.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Eight people, including two incumbents, campaigned to serve on the Newport News City Council.
The City Council is governed by three people each representing one district of the city: the North District, Central District and South District.
North District
In the North District, incumbent Marcellus Harris ran unopposed. Harris told 13News Now before the election that his priorities for Newport News include adding more mental health resources for youth services, expanding business opportunities and bringing an end to gun violence.
Central District
The Central District race saw five candidates battle for one seat.
Rob Coleman has defeated four challengers: Andrea Diggs, Scott Cox, Justin Kennedy and Stephen Ferguson. He garnered 31.4% of the vote, compared to 28.33% for Diggs, 24.27% for Ferguson, 13.74% for Kennedy and 2.26% for Cox.
