MONROE, La. (KNOE) – On Sept. 25, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted to hold Steward Health Care CEO Dr. Ralph de la Torre in criminal contempt for defying a congressional subpoena. This comes six days after the HELP Committee voted unanimously to hold de la Torre in contempt of court.
In a social media post on X, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) released the following statement:
“If you defy Congressional subpoenas, you will be held accountable. If your corporate greed endangers American communities, you will be held accountable. If you allow patients to suffer & die, while making out with millions, you will be held accountable.”
On July 18, 2024, de la Torre was subpoenaed, however, he failed to appear at the Sept. 12 Committee hearing.
During today’s (Sept. 25) Committee meeting U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy addressed de la Torre’s absence.
