Students start new school year amid building projects in Nashville [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The new home of Percy Priest Elementary school is currently rising above the building it is replacing.

“This building was in very poor condition, so we are very glad to be able to replace the school with this new building,” said Casey Megow, Metro Nashville Public Schools Executive Director of Facilities, Maintenance and Construction. “We’ll finish the building, move everybody in, and then build a new park in front of the school.”

Percy Priest Elementary is one school that’s getting a brand new building. The current building will be torn down to make way for a replacement elementary school that’s currently under construction on the existing school site. District leaders have allocated $42,280,000 for the project. The new school will serve a total of 800 students, which is about 100 more than it’s current capacity.
