Senator Collins visits Newburgh’s new fire station | News [Video]

NEWBURGH — Last fall the Newburgh Fire Department unveiled a brand new fire station after Senator Susan Collins secured one million in Congressionally Directed Spending. The senator returned to the fire station Monday to see how the improvements are impacting the community. 

Newburgh’s fire chief says the new and improved building has made a huge impact on their team. 

“This building is just amazing compared of where we used to come out of,” said Chief Brent Somers. “The guys are just, now they can’t wait to come in and help out and clean hang out and do some stuff and without this it would not be possible.” 

He says their previous building was in such disrepair it became a health hazard. 

“A lot of black mold it was coming out from ceilings, the walls, health wise it was a huge concern for the guys.”
