WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, stood up and directly apologized to families of children who were negatively affected by his social media platforms during a Senate hearing on Wednesday.

After being pressed by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Zuckerberg stood up and faced families who were holding pictures of their children, saying he was sorry for “everything you have all gone through.”

“This is why we’ve invested so much and are going to continue doing industry-leading efforts to make sure that no one has to go through the types of things that your families have had to suffer,” Zuckerberg added.

Sen. Hawley continued to press Zuckerberg on whether he would compensate the families whose children were impacted.

The CEOs of Meta, TikTok, X and other social media companies testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about efforts to keep kids safe from online sexual exploitation Wednesday.
